Education and Experience
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University-Commerce with a B.S. in Counseling with a minor in Interdisciplinary Studies. I completed my graduate work with an M.S. in Counseling. During my educational career I was awarded Dean and President’s Lists honors each semester and was awarded membership in Alpha Chi Honor Society.
In 2004, I began my internship for New Beginning Center, a non-profit organization in Garland, serving families affected by domestic/dating violence. Providing counseling services to children, teens and adult victims of domestic violence was my main role in the agency but I also educated volunteers on the issue and help to develop group programs for women and children. This experience gave me a great opportunity to utilize my specialized skills in play and activity therapy. It was also the place where I honed my skills for counseling clients with trauma issues.
In 2005, after graduation, New Beginning Center offered me a paid LPC internship and after only one year of employment, I was honored to accept a supervisor position as clinical coordinator. In addition to serving as counselor, I supervised the counseling and advocate staff, implemented, created and managed programs for clients as well as providing training to other professional groups such as law enforcement and physicians. I am considered an expert on domestic/dating violence.
After New Beginning Center, in 2008 I worked in private practice at Bridging Harts Psychotherapy and Psychodrama Institute in Allen, Texas. There, I provided individual, couples, and group therapy for clients ranging in age range of 8-80. This position afforded me a more eclectic population and larger variety of issues to explore and assist with which, only deepened my passion for my career. After a 3 year hiatus to have my son and enjoy being a full time mom, I opened my practice in Rockwall, Texas be closer to home.
